George lost his son, Tony, just weeks before his 25th birthday. Like many Gold Star families, George felt lost. The tremendous loss of his son had him asking many questions of not only himself, but our country. He wanted to create a national symbol of rememberance. Not just for his son, but for all sons and daughters, fathers, mothers, husbands, wives, etc lost either in battle overseas or here at home to their demons.
